Val-d’Or, November 23, 2018 —The Board of Directors of SOQUEM, a subsidiary of Ressources Québec, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Michel Gilbert as Interim President and CEO. Mr. Gilbert was appointed following Mr. Olivier Grondin’s departure. The latter had served as President and CEO of SOQUEM since June 30, 2016, and he left the company on October 26, 2018.
Mr. Gilbert holds a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering and a master’s degree in applied sciences from the École Polytechnique de Montréal. He is currently a lecturer in applied management for the mining industry at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue and is the director of a private firm operating in the mining exploration industry. Mr. Gilbert is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and has nearly 30 years of experience in mine exploration and development, having worked in Quebec and Mexico for Aurizon Mines and Cambior. He was chairman of Ressources Cartier’s board of directors, the director of CONSOREM, and he also served as a director for numerous non-profit organizations. Ressources Québec is a subsidiary of Investissement Québec that consolidates government equity stakes in the natural resources sector—including mining exploration—through its own subsidiary: SOQUEM.
